Lifecycle Assessment Overview

In keeping with our transparency in supply chain initiatives, BLOOM commissioned a complete, peer-reviewed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to help brands and consumers grasp the impact of using algae from cleaning water. An LCA is a data-based approach to measuring environmental impacts in five impact categories.

The algae-based thermoplastic manufacturing process was methodically analyzed at every step from algae harvesting to plastic production so that it could be compared to traditional EVA. This graph taken from our LCA shows that BLOOM has 20-41% fewer impacts in all impact categories compared to EVA.

Simplifying the Story

While the data behind the LCA is compelling, the five impact categories can be difficult for a consumer to grasp. BLOOM’s Eco-Facts Label uses data from the climate change and water categories to communicate impacts consumers care about, using every-day items.

The product-specific Eco-Facts Label allows brands to easily communicate to their customers the benefits of using their products.

With your Eco-Facts Labels, the BLOOM story is easy to adopt into existing sustainability initiatives and communications to consumers.
